Fashion obsession of the day

I've always been a chunky necklace kind of girl, but I'm starting to realize that bold rings might be the perfect accessory. They add personality and sparkle to an outfit without taking away from the clothes. Here are some of my favorites. Can you tell I love gold?

Lazy Sunday

Don't you just love Sundays? Waking up way too late, eating pancakes when you're supposed to be off carbs, catching up on your DVR, reading 100 pages in a book and filling your online shopping cart at Saks but never buying a thing. Tomorrow I'll post some photos I took over the weekend. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Oh, Oscar!

Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2010 is nothing less than genius.

Fashion obsession of the day

This is my second post about new designer Rachel Gilbert. Her gowns are super feminine, chic and have a touch of sparkle. This cream and white ruffle gown is no different. But the best part about this Aussie's dresses? They cost much less than say an Herve Leger or Oscar de la Renta gown. And this one makes a totally affordable wedding dress, too.

Ba-nanas.

So I know I posted the Marc Jacobs Collection yesterday, but I just can't resist sharing my favorite looks from the Marc by Marc Jacobs runway show. It's incredible. The looks are Gossip Girl preppy chic and totally wearable. And the big bow headbands are adorable. Blair Waldorf, anyone? I am definitely going to be rocking Marc by MJ this spring.

365 Days of Photos: Day Sixteen

This tree is a wise, old man.

Fashion obsession of the day

Marc Jacobs always puts on a show during fashion week, and his Spring 2010 collection was no exception. Here are some of his best looks from the runway.

365 Days of Photos: Day Fifteen

Dressing cute = a positive attitude, so today I started a promise to love my outfit every day, which will hopefully also make me love walking out the door in the morning.
Dress: Anthropolgie, $125
Shoes: Target, $6.50
Bracelets: H&M

I've already missed some days in my 365 Days of Photos project, but I have successfully taken photos every day - I just haven't had time to post them. I'll post when I can, and next week will definitely mark the beginning of my to be named weekend photo journal.

Where are all the fashionistas?

Living in upstate New York (Great Lakes upstate) is, well, disappointing. Our weather isn't conducive to planning an outfit (in the morning all you want to do is bundle up, but by the time the day's over you're sweating through your cashmere), people tend to be conservative and - most importantly - can't dress to save their lives. Now I'm not saying there aren't some fabulous fashionistas walking around town, but they are few and far between. And if you're one of the stylish select few, you stick out like a blonde girl in Chinatown. And they stare you down, too.

So yesterday marked the debut of Anna Sui's Gossip Girl inspired line for Target. I proudly set my alarm on a Sunday morning to make sure I'd be the first in line at the only Target in town to carry the line. Except when I got there at 8 a.m., not one other girl was waiting at the doors. There was one girl in the dressing rooms trying on some of the pieces, but she wasn't just there for Anna Sui. I was so disappointed. I guess I expected it to be cutthroat - like a sample sale with running and grabbing three sizes at a time. Just another reason why I don't belong upstate. But downstate, I'll get there soon.

Here are the two pieces I picked up. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the grey dress or not. If anyone is interested in it, let me know.

Fashion obsession of the day

I love, love, love this jersey turtleneck from the luxe -T-shirt line Splendid. The forest green fall color, the deep pockets and flowy hem. It's the perfect top to throw on with skinny jeans and leather riding boots for a cool, fall day.

Fashion obsession of the day

I love just about every piece in Thread Social's fall collection. Especially this Blair Waldorf-esque dress. It also reminds me of a morning after outfit - throwing on a boyfriend oxford shirt with your mini dress from the night before. So sexy.

365 Days of Photos: Days Five-Nine

One of my favorite bloggers, Kate from For Me, For You, has a genius and gorgeous collection of weekly photos called "Bits of my weekend." I'm thinking about including a version on my blog as well, but I can't think of a cute name without totally stealing Kate's idea. I just wanted to let you know this section is still a work in progress. But for now, here are some of my favorite photos I took over the long weekend.

Fashion obsession of the day: For the guys and the gals

So I know you're thinking I'm crazy - this is a men's shirt. But not just any shirt. It is Marc by Marc Jacobs, after all. But it has so much potential as a chic shirt for men and women. I spotted it in the new Saks men's catalogue and died for it. Matt's genius idea was that if we buy it, we can share it and then it would only be half the price (love him). He could wear it with jeans, and I could wear it with leggings and a black leather belt. Is it crazy or fabulous?

Fashion obsession of the day

Ever since I saw Taylor on The Rachel Zoe Project sporting her gaudy, gold Rolex, I've been dying for one. Obviously not a Rolex, but I love this Michael Kors version. I think it might actually be a men's watch - which is even better. Why is this not adorning my wrist right now?

Fashion obsession of the day

It takes a lot for an item of clothing to take my breath away. There are items I love, items I have to have and items that are fabulous, but very few that make my heart skip a beat. This beaded silk chiffon gown did. I never thought I would want to channel Barbie and get married in a pink dress, but oh is it quite a possibility in this.

365 Days of Photos: Day Three

This urban art sanctuary is in Rochester's abandoned subway tunnels. The graffiti is spectacular, but this place is so eerie. Being there alone was the same feeling I got being in a creepy basement and sprinting upstairs, scared of the unknown.

Carrie Bradshaw The Sequel

The Sex and the City sequel has begun filming in New York City, and the first snapshots are out! SJP looks fierce, but I'm not sure how I feel about the sequel. As a huge fan of the show (it's actually one of the reasons I became a writer), I kind of feel betrayed. The last film was more sentimental than the show, but left fans feeling satisfied - like we had closure after losing a best friend: the series. Regardless, I'll still be lined up the day the movie opens. What do you think will happen in the women's lives? I really hope Carrie and Big don't get divorced. I'm not sure I could handle that break-up for the 800th time.

Fashion obsession of the day

Almost any dress in a funky print and a racerback is a winner. This earthquake print inspired dress is no exception. But there aren't very many days left to rock a racerback mini dress, so here's how to make it fall friendly. The warm earth tones work great with this rich brown cropped leather motorcycle jacket and slouchy suede boots (these are by Elizabeth and James and oh so fierce).

365 Days of Photos: Day Two

This church is right down the street from my apartment. I love how the clear sky and the building touch - so otherworldly.

Fashion obsession of the day

We all know a Little Black Dress is a wardrobe essential. But who said a girl needs just one? This lingerie inspired LBD is the perfect LBD to transition to fall. Pair it with funky tights, leather jacket and booties and it's definitely not your average LBD anymore.
