Best of 2010: Part One

2010 was the year of firsts. My first trip to Paris, London and Amsterdam, my first half marathon, first century bike ride, first surprise birthday party, first marathon, first time I've kept my hair anything than blonde for more than two weeks, first year I shopped without a credit card (well, for some of the year) and first year I went to NYC alone. If I tried, 2010 couldn't have been more memorable. Here are my favorite photos of the year (in semi-chronological order). Cheers to 2011 being even more fantastic.

Journey around the world

Talk about a New Year's resolution. My friend Angelina is moving to the Philippines in three weeks. From there, she's going to travel the world, not sure where she'll go or long she'll be gone. Angelina is an inspiring, free-spirited woman who I envy for dropping everything to take the adventure of a lifetime. The only goal she has for the journey is to inspire and motivate positive change in the world. I'd say that's pretty awesome (and hopefully I'll have the chance to meet her on a stop along the way).

Isn't she pretty? You can follow her journey at angelinamariearnone.blogspot.com.

Fashion Obsession of the Day

This lace-trimmed romper totally looks like pajamas, I know. But with patterned tights and a pair of platform pumps, it's Lolita chic.

Fashion Obsession of the Day

It's been a while since I've featured an extravagant find, what with all the Christmas bargain shopping we've all been doing. Well if you're in the market for a Halston gown and don't yet have a New Year's Eve outfit, this pleated lame dress screams "kiss me at midnight."

Fashion Obsession of the Day

I broke my shopping ban. Madewell is having a serious sale and I was in desperate need for some new items in my wardrobe. But in all fairness, I did tell myself I wouldn't buy anything until after Christmas and that I wouldn't use my credit card. I gotta tell ya - getting used to shopping without a credit card is tough, but it definitely makes you think twice about purchases (and keeps you out of debt). If I wasn't being conservative with everything I buy from here on out, I would have this draped peach blazer on its way to my doorstep. It would go great over, well, everything - a t-shirt and jeans, mini skirt and tights (love long jackets that fall below a skirt's hemline) or as a suiting jacket alternative.

Beautiful Weekend/Christmas

It's been way too long since I had a Beautiful Weekend update, so here's an overload of photos. I hope you had a wonderful holiday. I hosted a brunch Christmas morning with a sundried tomato and basil frittata, honey cake, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, edamame hummus and broccoli slaw - some of my favorite recipes. I also received some amazing gifts including a new Marc by MJ handbag (thanks mom!) and an external hard drive for all of my photos (my Mac has been giving me the pinwheel of death everytime I try and open my photo files). What did you get from Santa?

Dreaming of the ocean

Now that the craziness of Christmas is over I'm daydreaming of an oceanfront vacation. Time to plan my next adventure. I'll see you tomorrow with some well overdue Beautiful Weekend photos.

Fashion Obsession of the Day: Holiday Gifts Day 8

Alright everyone. Today is the day. Shop online or be stuck with all the jerks at the mall. Luckily, some online retailers like Amazon have expedited shipping. If you have a fashionable friend (or someone who needs help in that department), the book, Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work by Tim Gunn makes an excellent gift. On a related note, I wish I had Tim Gunn as my gay father.

Fashion Obsession of the Day: Holiday Gifts Day 7

Luckily most online retailers have two-day shipping, so there's still time today to order online. If you're struggling to find a gift, these wool bow slippers are perfect for any woman on your list. Plus, they're so much better than those hideous faux fur booties she's worn for three years.

Spoil Me Fashion

Today, Spoil Me Fashion, a new online boutique that sells designer jewelry and handbags, is offering Everything is Beautiful readers a special discount. Just enter the code HAUTEDEAL20 at checkout to receive 20 percent off your entire purchase. Even more good news: Free shipping until Dec. 20. That means you can still have time to order last minute gifts. (Don't you hate that phrase, 'last minute?' It implies everyone else is finished but you.)

I would so go for this Samantha House blue agate necklace or Citrine by the Stones braided ring.

Fashion Obsession of the Day: Holiday Gifts Day 6

These sweater leggings are the perfect gift for your eccentrically dressed mom who lives in her PJs and despises the snow. The cozy knit leggings will keep her warm and fashionable.

Fashion Obsession of the Day: Holiday Gifts Day 5

A sherpa-lined flannel shirt is the perfect gift for your dad who shovels his neighbors' driveways in a blizzard at 6 a.m. Just because he's that nice.

Fashion Obsession of the Day: Holiday Gifts Day 4

Here's one for the boys. The translation on this skinny neck adornment reads: "This is not a tie." Perfect for your boyfriend who loves punk bands and wears ironic tees, but has an accounting day job, this reluctant tie will make him smile. And when co-workers ask what it means, he can make up any saying he wants.

Beautiful Friday

Another week closer to Christmas and I haven't finished shopping or baked cookies. I'm hoping to get at least one of those tasks checked off my list this weekend. I'm getting together with a friend to have a cookie baking party. This year, I'm baking a crap ton of cookies and giving them as gifts. As a cute way to keep them fresh, I bought mason jars, Christmas ribbon and I'm making tags like these. So cute, right? I also have high hopes the snow will relax and I'll make the hour drive to the closest Urban Outfitters. Have a fantastic weekend.

This sequined heart headband is the perfect gift for your bff who's in love with Paris, still believes in romantic fairy tales and secretly watches Gossip Girl.
