Beautiful weekend

There are moments in your life when you realize how quickly years go by. On Sunday, I took photos for my friend's daughter's junior prom. I graduated from high school seven years ago; college three. Now all of a sudden I'm turning 25 this year. Everything I had planned for my life up to this point has yet to happen (except maybe graduating from college). But I'm OK with that. Life never goes as planned. Who knew taking prom photos could be so life reflecting? The rest of the weekend I spent running around and nursing a sunburn after forgetting sunblock on a 40 mile bike ride. I look a lot like a lobster with awkward tan lines.

Fashion obsession of the day

Summer sandal season is here! I don't think I've been this excited since the snow drifts melted. Instead of regular old brown or black leather, these Jeffrey Campbell printed sandals are a cool alternative.

Another reason to celebrate - it's Friday. And a long weekend! What are your plans? I'll be seeing Sex and the City 2 tonight and on Sunday it's my first gig as a photographer - I'm shooting my friend's daughter's prom photos. Monday I predict a ton of baking and outdoor activities. Enjoy your weekend!

Fashion obsession of the day

First of all, I have to apologize for my absence this week. I've already fell off my bike twice and fainted in a bagel store bathroom. Is the long weekend here yet? But back to the fashion. How can Anthropologie consider this cotton layered frock as a chemise? Sure, it's sheer, but it's going to be a hot summer. Plus, this dress has such irresistable details: a button front top, a racerback, a flattering pale pink tie waist and a flirty, flowy skirt. Too cute to wear just around the house.

Untraditional wedding dresses

As you know, I have a thing for finding beautiful and untraditional wedding dresses. Short, casual, beachy or non-white, I love when brides take a fashion risk on their wedding day (which will definitely be me one day). Well now Shopbop has a an entire shop dedicated to the eccentric bride. And you know what's even better? Because these aren't considered wedding dresses, the price is so much more reasonable. Just proof once again that if you slap the word wedding in front of anything - flowers, reception, dress - it doubles in price.

Sunny Monday

Today's forecast in upstate New York calls for sunshine and 80 degree weather. I hope your Monday will be easier to tolerate because of the sun, too. This weekend I was holed up working on an exciting new project with my friend: a screenplay. It's in the beginning stages, but it's 500 Days of Summer meets The Notebook. An indie romantic comedy, if you will. I am so excited and I see so much potential in our idea. And after my NYC trip, I recreated Magnolia Bakery's famous banana pudding. Do not walk to the kitchen to make this - run! Like my mom said after eating it yesterday: "This is so good I want to bathe in it."

Fashion obsession of the day

I keep getting asked if I'm excited to see Sex and the City 2. As a diehard fan, of course I'll be lined up to see it, but it feels more like an obligation. Each clip I see is, dare I say it, cheesier than the next, and doesn't reflect the air of the show I grew up with. But regardless, Carrie Bradshaw has been my fashion, career and life role model. When I spotted this draped dress it screamed Carrie B. The feminine bow print, the exaggerated ruffle, the mini length - they're all Carrie details (and ones I love, too).

Fashion obsession of the day

Chambray is my new summer love. It's breath of a blue hue is light and airy and casual. But this strapless chambray dress gives the fabric a whole new look. The balloon hem, sweetheart neckline and exaggerated pleating turn chambray from mellow to polished.

Beautiful New York

What an amazing three days in New York City. The trip has only reaffirmed my love for the city and my belief that it's my destiny to move there. On Sunday, I met up with a friend who recently moved there for a job. We hit up the Brooklyn Flea Market and I scored a few great finds, including a handmade necklace. She also introduced me to the delicious whipped air that is Pinkberry. Monday I stayed close to the West Village (my favorite neighborhood) and shopped my little heart out. I just love the Marc by MJ Store there - they have a whole selection of thrifty accessories, like water bottles and totes for under $20. I also continued my quest for the best cupcake in NYC at Billy's Bakery (more on that in another post). Then it was time for the Yankees versus Red Sox game. I definitely consider myself a girlfriend of a Yankees fan, although my crush on Brett Gardner makes it much easier to watch four hour games at home. But there's something about live sporting events that gets me energized. And this was a great game to watch (they won in the bottom of the ninth inning). Tuesday it poured all day but we had just enough time before our flight to grab brunch at Clinton Street Baking Company in the East Village. Everyone raves about their pancakes, and they were everything I imagined. Light and fluffy, sweet and delicious. But it was the maple butter syrup I will continue to dream about.

Happy Friday

Is it just me or does this week feel like it's had an extra day added to it? I'm just glad it's finally the weekend - and a long one for me. I'm off to my second favorite city in the world this weekend, New York City. The boy and I are off to catch a Yankees game, eat some amazing blueberry pancakes, continue my quest for the best cupcakes in NYC (I'll let you know the standings when I get back) and wander the Brooklyn Flea Market. Have a fabulous weekend. I'll see you on Wednesday.

Fashion obsession of the day

Paper bag waists have been trying to infiltrate the mass fashion world for a couple years, but it seems they're just finally beginning to catch on. The detail is so unique, and feminine, too. I've spotted them in more expensive pieces, but not so much in the mall. I spotted these pants at a recent trip to Anthropologie and fell in love. The slouchy shape, cuffed bottoms, exaggerated bow and, of course, the waist.

Fashion obsession of the day

What is it about the J. Crew catalogs that makes me want everything? Even the simplest t-shirt seems extra stylish. These menswear inspired sandals seemed like an afterthought in the summer catalog, but I spotted these with just as much enthusiasm as a pair of perfectly fitting skinny jeans. Wear these to style up slouchy summer shorts, skirts and cropped jeggings. But really, what don't these slingback sandals go with?

Fashion obsession of the day

Today's eye candy comes via my fabulously named friend, Emily. She loves sweater dresses and discovered this amazing knitwear by Mark Fast. His pieces are like nothing like I've ever seen before. If you don't want every eye on you in the room, don't wear this sexy, slinky knit dress - this is definitely a traffic stopper.

Fashion obsession of the day

Ooh la la! Don't you just love this Parisian striped dress? It even has a bow. I know you're thinking, "It's just a bow," but to me it's so much more. Bows equal femininity, an air of flirtiness and in its oversized glory, it's a detail only the most bold women can rock without looking like a first grader. And don't think I forgot about the cinched waist. Le sigh.

Fashion obsession of the day

Flowy, comfy and summery - all rolled into one amazing cotton jersey maxi dress. I've been dreaming about a Rachel Pally maxi dress these past few summers and this might be the one. The only thing that worries me is the extra long ruffled bottom skimming the ground, but that's also part of its romantic appeal.

Fashion obsession of the day

Although shorts and I don't usually get along, I just can't resist a pair of preppy printed ones. These Moroccan inspired ikat shorts remind me of an exotic summer vacation or an afternoon round of golf (or in my case, driving the cart and drinking mimosas). Either way, I see these in my future.

Fashion obsession of the day

This Valentino dress is so gorgeous it deserves a front and back view. With buttercup colored ruffles, a sheer panel and one of my favorite details ever: an oversized bow, anyone who can afford the straight from the runway price tag will turn heads and take numbers.

Fashion obsession of the day

Must. Have. Now. This is the oversized bow headband sported by the models at the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010 runway show. Made of silk taffeta, this is more like a headwrap, which unfortunately, always seem to slide off my hair. Cursed with thin hair, as a child my mom would put the cutest barrettes in my hair, but they would just slide right off. Now I have a bit more hair and affinity for bleach, but still the same problem. But because I'll do just about anything for fashion (and Marc Jacobs), I'm willing to give this special bow a shot.

Beautiful Weekend

Another two days gone in the blink of an eye. I worked Friday night and Saturday, so the rest of my weekend was dotted with naps, trips to the gym and baking. My mom was also in town and we got to spend some time together, but definitely not enough. The weather was beautiful this weekend and there's just something about seeing everyone walk around in shorts and sundresses that makes me smile. Summer is almost here.

This vintage plaid dress is totally irresistible for a few reasons: buttons, patch pockets and its ease of chicness - throw it on and you're lookin' good.
